Also, wood has various healing properties because of which places like hospitals have wood as an important element that makes up the structure. During winters, living in log cabin offers several benefits. However, there are also few disadvantages.

Advantages of living in a log cabin in winter

Protection from the Cold Weather

Wood, as stated earlier, is a natural insulator. Any structure constructed from wood remains protected and insulated from the extremities of the external climatic conditions. Living in a log cabin in winter ensures protection from such extreme weather and helps live a comfortable and cosy life.

The internal temperature of a log cabin stays at a much stable level as compared to the external conditions. During winters, the external temperature changes frequently. During nights and early morning, it gets very cold outside.

But the temperature inside the cabin stays at a much warmer level. Hence, the fluctuating temperature and the extreme cold weather outside the cabin does not severely affect those living in the cabin.

When compared with the traditional concrete structures, log cabin maintain internal temperatures at a very stable level. The transmission of heat from within the log cabin to the outside is low and hence the internal temperature remains at a very comfortable and stable level.

   *  The temperature inside the log cabin remains at a stable level as compared to other kinds of structures.
   *  When the temperature outside fluctuates, there is relative stability inside the log cabin.
   *  The effects of extreme outside climatic conditions are not felt inside the log cabins due to their insulation.
   *  During very cold conditions, log cabins provide very comfortable living conditions inside the cabin.

Low Energy Consumption

Due to the insulating properties of log cabins, there is a lower requirement of using heating apparatus such as heaters. Since the internal temperature remains warmer, the requirement of heaters reduces significantly.

Accordingly, the consumption of the energy is also reduced to a significant extent. The energy consumption of these equipment installed in a log cabin use 25 to 30 percent less energy than those installed in concrete buildings.

   *  Lesser energy consumption due to lower requirement of heaters
   *  The saving in energy is almost 25 to 30 percent
   *  Log cabins provide for more natural warming rather than using artificial equipment for warming

Environment Friendly and Cost Effective

Living in a log cabin during winters is environment friendly due to the low requirement of heating systems. As the requirement reduces, the pollution also goes down resulting in more environmental friendly effect.

It reduces the carbon footprint of those living in a residential log cabin. Also, since the consumption of energy reduces the cost associated with it is also reduced substantially. Living in a log cabin during winters is highly beneficial for the environment and also helps in saving money that otherwise would have been spent on heating the house.

   *  Log cabins use low energy thereby reducing the impact over the environment.
   *  As these cabins require less use of heating systems, the cost of running these equipment also reduces.
   *  As there is a low requirement of the heating equipment, their wear and tear also reduces which means that the cost of repair and maintenance also reduces further.

Health Benefits

Due to a natural and comfortable living environment provided by log cabins during winter, the health of the inhabitants living in such cabins improves considerably. As compared to the external environment, the internal temperature of a log cabin remains at a very comfortable level as compared to other concrete structures.

Due to the warm interiors of a log cabin during winter, those living in it enjoy a healthy life. Similarly, due to its natural insulating properties, log cabins require much lesser use of heating systems. It reduces pollution which has a positive impact over the health of these living in the log cabin.

   *  Living in a log cabin has various health benefits.
   *  Due to the insulation of the wood, the internal temperature remains at a stable level.
   *  It helps with maintaining a good health for those who live inside the log cabin.
   *  Also, due to the low pollution resulting from lesser use of heating systems, the health of the inhabitants of log cabins improve significantly.

Disadvantages of Living in a Log Cabin in Winter

Log cabins are known for the picturesque landscapes surrounding them as these are usually situated outside the city areas. But this can also be a disadvantage especially during winters. Due to a fair distance between these log cabins and the city areas, travelling to cities could become a problem especially when it snows in winter.

The distance and the type of roads could lead to people stranding inside the log cabins for days together necessitating them to stock huge piles of food and other essentials.

It can become disastrous if there is a medical emergency during winters. Also, due to snow or rains in winter, there could be a disconnection of the mobile, internet and television services. If there is a disconnection of electricity, the heating equipment would not work and the dependency on systems such as fireplace would increase. The need to use the fireplace increases fire hazard to the log cabin.

Log cabins are one of the best alternatives to live during winters. The natural cosy living conditions provided by the log cabins are unmatched. These are also highly efficient in terms of costs and energy consumption.

However, there are few disadvantages associated with living in a log cabin in winter. Due to their relatively isolated surrounding, accessibility during winters can be a major issue. Using the fireplace can also be more risky in a wooden log cabin.
